Electro-spinning Prototype
Role
Lead CAD Engineer

Project type
Junior Design Project - Electrospinning Prototype
For our electrospinning project, my team and I developed a device incorporating a final design known as the “Worm Wheel Assembly”. This design was chosen for its superior stability and power, ensuring reliable operation during the electrospinning process.
Key features of the design include:
-3D-Printed Components: The collector (B) and gear assembly (D and H) were fabricated using 3D printing for precision and durability.
-Sturdy Support Structure: The device is supported by 1-inch wooden rods (C), secured with two screws. One screw fastens the spinneret plate to the rod from the top, while the second anchors the wooden box to the rod at the bottom, ensuring structural stability.
-Stepper Motor Mechanism: A stepper motor is mounted on a wooden cube to provide adequate clearance for the rack (D), allowing the collector plate to be lowered to a minimum height of 22 cm.
This design balances functionality, simplicity, and robustness, providing a reliable platform for electrospinning applications.
HOW IT WORKS:
The device features a user-friendly keypad that allows the user to input a desired distance. Once the distance is entered, pressing "Enter" activates the stepper motor, which moves the collector plate precisely to the specified location. This system ensures accurate and consistent positioning, critical for maintaining uniformity during the electrospinning process.
